Due to inreasing demand, Charlotte Wessels' tribute to Thom Yorke will also be accesible via livestream. Charlotte Wessels (ex-Delain) will be a guest at Muzikale Voetsporen in P60 in Amstelveen on Thursday 9th of February 2023, where she will honour her great hero Thom Yorke of Radiohead. Host Martin Kuiper interviews the singer and songwriter from Zwolle for more than an hour about the English songwriter and frontman of Radiohead, after which Wessels will play songs by Thom Yorke in an acoustic session. "Of all my favorite artists, no one has been at the top of my playlists for so long, with such diverse work. A consistent source of inspiration for me for twenty years!"
Charlotte Wessels
Charlotte Wessels (1987) broke through in 2005 as a singer of symphonic metal formation Delain and developed as the powerful and committed face of the band. With Delain, she released six albums and toured the world for sixteen years. After the breakup of the band's then formation in 2021, she worked from the studio in her basement in Utrecht on two solo albums "Tales From Six Feet Under" Vol I and Vol II. On these albums Wessels shows a diverse sound musically. "If Thom Yorke's oeuvre illustrates anything, it is that as an artist you don't have to limit yourself to one specific sound," Wessels explains.
Thom Yorke
With the debut single Creep from the album Pablo Honey, Thom Yorke scored a huge hit with Radiohead in 1992. In the years that followed, Radiohead grew into a world band, which continued to captivate fans and critics alike. After the masterpiece OK Computer from 1997, Thom Yorke changed course and exchanged his guitar for electronics on the albums Kid A and Amnesiac. Even solo with Atoms For Peace, Yorke does not shy away from experimentation. "I first heard Radiohead's music with Amnesiac. It crawled right under my skin and never let me go," Wessels explains.
"It wasn't until later that I discovered the rock hits from their earlier records. OK Computer is of course a masterpiece, but it is precisely the elusive and progressive of the later albums, which you also hear in his solo work and film music, that fascinates me immensely. You don't have to worry about me playing Creep."
Charlotte Wessels likes to take an example from Thom Yorke and Radiohead. "It can't be easy to reinvent yourself over and over again. Both musically and lyrically - but also in terms of navigation in the music world. You have to go deep for that and I have deep respect for that."
