After a well-earned break, The Mystery Lights return with their most ambitious album yet: Purgatory. Produced once again by Wayne Gordon and released on their longtime label Wick Records, the band will unveil their third record in September 2024. The Mystery Lights began in 2004 in Salinas, California, when friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso bonded over their love for raw rock music. After years of relentless touring, they relocated to Queens, New York in 2014, where their explosive live shows quickly earned them a loyal following.

About The Mystery Lights
Their electrifying performances and tight grooves caught the attention of Daptone Records, who signed them to their rock-oriented imprint Wick Records. Their 2016 debut album quickly earned them praise from NME as one of New York’s best garage rock bands. This led to worldwide tours, from small clubs to major festivals. Their second album, Too Much Tension, stayed true to their raw roots while expanding their musical range—securing their place as innovators in today’s rock scene.

The road to Purgatory, however, wasn't without setbacks. Just before the recording sessions in Los Angeles, bassist Alex Amini was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident. Fortunately, he recovered well enough to take part in the sessions. The new album is an explosive blend of psychedelia, punk, art rock, and even country influences. Tracks like “Purgatory” and “Can’t Sleep Through the Silence” strike a balance between chaos and catchy hooks, proving once again that The Mystery Lights are one of the most exciting live bands of the moment. This fall, they’ll be performing live both in the Netherlands and abroad.
