Exciting world of music photography attracts many professional and amateur photographers. Pure emotions of musicians, flaws of visual lights, energy and dynamics of the story behind the music make them grab the camera and shot, shot, shot... However, due to the complex technical environment and other aspects of music photography, results will not always satisfy us, and we fail to reflect this scene magic.
Our highly interactive workshop will help you to identify your main challenges, and will guide you through the sequence of interactions between technique, photo-equipment, composition, and other essential aspects of music photography. During two hands-on shooting days Arkady will help you to master your technical skills behind the camera, and will share practical experience that Arkady gained during more than 30 years of jazz photography.
The workshop covers theoretical and practical sessions of taking photos of a live concert, interactive discussions about differences of music photography in different countries, cultural and ethical aspects of photography, and copyright issues. In addition, there will be individual feedback sessions during the workshop, where we will cover various topics from composition to photo-equipment ... whatever you’re most interested in discussing.
About Arkady Mitnik:
Arkady (www.jazzimage.me) grew up in Ukraine, and at the beginning of 1990 moved to Israel. Later he immigrated to The Netherlands, where he now resides for over twenty years.
His passion for photography started from the magic of dad’s amateur darkroom laboratory. Old Russian enlarger, red lighting, film accessories with the old Russian FED camera made him love photography for the rest of his life.
Being a big fan of the Jazz Music, Arkady almost found himself in a limbo – how to choose between two very different hobbies, or even life-styles: Jazz and Photography? This dilemma was solved from the very natural angle – he simply combined these two into just one: Jazz Photography. Being armed with Practica SLR, and later - several Olympus SLRs, Arkady managed to set up a photo laboratory in the heart of Ukrainian Jazz, the first Kiev Jazz Club.
Moving through cities and countries, he never forgot the essence of his spiritual life – combined passion of Music Photography with Personal Photo exhibitions, Festivals and clubs in Israel, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Germany, USA and other countries; meeting new people, new musicians, listening to improvised music, building and enjoying new impressions – all these elements are very essential for Arkady's life and courage, and are reflected in his photos.
